Re :     Nominations for the 2023 Xavier-Kuangchi Award for Exemplary Alumni

We are pleased to announce the start of the nomination process for the 2023 Xavier-Kuangchi Award for Exemplary Alumni.

The award is named after St. Francis Xavier and Paul Hsü Kuangchi, from whom the school takes its English and Chinese names, respectively. It was established to honor alumni who clearly manifest the attributes that define the Xavier ideal of “men fully alive, endowed with a passion for justice and the skills for development.” Through his service and leadership, the awardee must have had a positive impact on society, and his example should inspire our entire community to lead similarly exemplary lives.

While we are happy to receive nominations for alumni who have led exemplary lives of service in any field of endeavor, we would like this year  to especially solicit nominations of alumni who have made substantive contributions through their involvement with socio-civic associations, such as family associations, charitable foundations, outreach organizations, and civic organizations.

We would like to remind the community that because this award is for long-term and personal social engagement, the selection criteria places particular importance on the sustained nature of the awardee’s service and contributions to society, especially to poor and marginalized sectors of society.  It is not intended to recognize particular “heroic” acts of service, and even less so financial contributions that he may have made to such associations.  We would also like to emphasize that it is not the organization or the organization’s achievements that we mean to recognize, but the contributions of the individual alumnus to the attainment of the organizations’ goals.

Alumni who graduated from 1960 to 2003 are eligible for the 2023 awards. We would like to invite all members of the Xavier School community to help us identify worthy recipients of this award. Nomination forms are available at the Development and Alumni Relations Office (DARO) or online at https://bit.ly/XSKEAForm. Deadline for submission is on July 28, 2023.
