The Jesuit Athletic Meet (JAM) is an event where all Jesuit schools nationwide gather with the primary intention of promoting friendship and sportsmanship among student athletes.
Going back to its history, JAM was first hosted by Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-ADC) in 1995, followed by Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) in 1996, and Xavier School San Juan (XSSJ) in 1997. In the years 1999 and 2001, SHS-ADC became the host for the second and third time. ADMU also followed in hosting JAM in 2003, then later in 2010. Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) hosted the HS JAM in 2012, Ateneo de Naga University (ADNU) in 2014, Ateneo de Davao University (ADDU) in 2016, and then Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-ADC) in 2018.
This year, the 12th Jesuit Jesuit Athletic Meet, JAM 2023, is jointly hosted by Xavier School Nuvali (XSN) and Xavier School San Juan (XSSJ). The athletic venues were mostly in the Nuvali campus with other events held in Biñan Sports Complex, Brent international School, and Everest Sky Pitch.
The event opened on September 19 with an opening mass at the XSN Sports Center presided over by the XSSJ Chaplain for Adult Formation, Fr. Arnulfo Bugtas, SJ. This was followed by the official opening program where the school president, Fr. Aristotle Dy, SJ gave his opening remarks and welcomed all the participating Jesuit schools. Various student performances were showcased, and the program culminated with a parade of all school representatives. Over 1,000 athletes gathered to witness this memorable event. The schools in attendance were Ateneo de Manila University, Ateneo de Naga University, Ateneo de Iloilo, Ateneo de Davao, Ateneo de Zamboanga, Loyola College of Culion, Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan, Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu, and the host schools, Xavier School Nuvali and Xavier School San Juan.
The various sports events were held from September 20-23. The line-up of sports for this year’s JAM were Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Football, Chess, Futsal, Swimming, Tennis, Table Tennis, Volleyball, and Taekwondo. From the qualifying and elimination rounds, to the semi-finals, until the championships on September 23, students, parents, faculty, staff, and administrators attended to give their all-out support to the athletes.
Within the JAM 2023 days, various events were held to allow the athletes who were housed in the Nuvali campus opportunities to unwind and socialize. In the afternoons, venues for Massage Time, Movie Time, Board Games, Videoke Lounge, Art Station, and eGames were provided. In the evenings, there were events such as the JAM Magis Night, Jamming sa Jam (Open Mic), K-Pop Festive, Karaoke-Kiks (Karaoke Night), Movie Night, and the like.
JAM 2023 ended with a closing program where the overall school champions were awarded and the announcement of the next school to host the 13th JAM was made. The 13th Jesuit Athletic Meet, JAM 2025, will be held at Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan.
