Fr. Joseph “Jhaw” Y. Haw, SJ, Ed.D. has just been formally installed as the 7th School President of Xavier School, Inc. at the Fr. Rafael Cortina, SJ Sports Center in Xavier School, San Juan City, June 29, 2024.
The installation and missioning mass was presided over by Fr. Xavier Olin, SJ, the Provincial Superior of the Society of Jesus in the Philippines and attended by former school directors and presidents, Fr. Alberto Ampil, SJ (1985-1991), Fr. Johnny Go, SJ (2001-2013), and Fr. Aristotle Dy, SJ (2013-2024). Also present were Jesuit priests and brothers, families and friends of Fr. Haw, faculty and staff from both campuses of Xavier School, alumni groups, students, parents, administrators and teachers from neighboring schools and other Jesuit institutions, and members of the school’s board of trustees.
Fr. Haw was elected School President by the Board of Trustees for a term of three years effective 01 April 2024. A well-known academic, researcher, and school administrator, he served as School President of Ateneo de Iloilo – Santa Maria Catholic School from 2012 to 2019. During his term, he focused on improving teacher and learner wellbeing, teacher formation, curriculum, and organizational development. He strengthened the Chinese language program and oversaw the school’s transition to integrated ICT for teaching, learning, and administration. Previously, he was Executive Director of the Philippine Jesuit Prison Service from 2010 to 2012.
The new president is now tasked to lead the school to greater heights in pursuit of excellence fueled by the school’s mission: to nurse the light in the students and be the light to the community.
