The members of the Xavier School Varsity Chess Team edged multiple titles in the Inter Scholastic Sports Association(ISSA) Chess Championships held in Brent International School Manila last September 21. In top form were XS Middle School Teams A and B that outclassed their opponents to forge a championship showdown between the two XS teams.
XS Team A prevailed over XS Team B in the Middle School(MS) Division to win the championship. Other schools that participated in the MS Division were International School Manila, British School Manila, and host Brent International School Manila.
In the High School(HS) Division, XS Team A dropped just one game to finish second to International School Manila. Other teams in the HS Division were British School Manila, Colegio San Agustin, Beacon Academy, and Elizabeth Seton School.
ISSA Middle School Division Champion XS Team A: Ryan Gabriel Taguba (6G), Philip Gregory Pe (4E), Jericho Winston Cu (4C) and Ivan Travis Cu (5I)
ISSA Middle School Division 1st Runner-Up XS Team B: Andres Zafra (4J), Karl Zachary Fajardo (2F), Alexander Miguel Lim (4C) and Martyn Matthew Judd (3H)
ISSA High School Division 1st Runner-up XS Team A: Josh Adrian See (8C), Michael Peñalosa (11F), Jack Winston Lim (7B) and Zachary Ashton Go (10I)
The players also won individual awards in their respective boards.

Board 1: Ivan Travis Cu – Gold Medal and Karl Zachary Fajardo – Silver Medal
Board 2: Ryan Gabriel Taguba – Silver Medal and Hayden Audric Go (6D) – Bronze Medal
Board 3: Jericho Winston Cu – Gold Medal
Board 4: Andres Zafra – Gold Medal and Philip Gregory Pe – Bronze Medal
High School Division
Board 1: Michael Peñalosa – Silver Medal
