Two young Xaverians won silver and bronze medals at the 15th International Mathematics Contest in Singapore last August 2–5, 2019. Shaun Jacob Cua (5F) bagged a silver medal, and Robert William Ang (6G) took home a bronze medal.
This year’s IMC comprised of delegates from the Philippines and 14 other countries namely Australia, Bulgaria, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The Philippine team finished the competition with a total of 269 awards that include 27 gold, 54 silver, 108 bronze, and 80 merit awards, according to the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG). The MTG, which is an organization of volunteer Mathematics teachers, has been training young Filipino students to compete in international competitions.
